Rabies

All dogs, cats, and ferrets should
have their first Rabies shot by the
time they are 16 weeks old.  This shot
is good for one year, and in dogs and
cats all subsequent Rabies shots are
good for three years.
Distemper / Parvo

Puppies should receive their first
Distemper / Parvo shot by the
time they are six weeks old.  This
is the first of a series, every few
weeks until 4 months of age.
Animed policy is to give shots at
6, 9, 12, and 16 weeks, then
annually after that.
Feline Distemper / Panleukopenia

Cats should have this shot by the time
they are eight weeks old.  It is the
equivalent of the canine parvo shot for
cats.  These too are given in a series, and
then annually after that.   Animed's
vaccine protects against several other
feline diseases, including Calicivirus.
Bordatella / Kennel Cough

Bordatella vaccine is given to prevent
the spread, misery, and cost of
kennel cough.  For these reasons we
require this vaccine every six months
for patients staying with us.  Typically
it is given by an intranasal route
(nose drops).
Giardia

Giardia is a single-celled organism
that lives in contaminated water and
causes severe diarrhea.  Pets can
contract it simply by walking
through a contaminated area and
then licking their feet.  To prevent
your pet from being exposed, we
require all dogs staying in our
facility to be current on the shot.
Lyme and Ehrlichia

These are two organisms
carried by ticks that can cause
latent, chronic, debilitating
diseases.  If you live in an area
where ticks are found, these
shots are a good idea.
Vaccine Policy:
Dogs are required to have Current Rabies,
Distemper, Bordatella, and Giardia vaccines to stay.
Cats must have Rabies, Distemper, and Bordatella.
All vaccines must be given by a licensed veterinarian
and written proof is required.
Feline Leukemia

Leukemia is a very serious and
easily transmissible disease.
Cats must be tested for
leukemia before being
vaccinated against it.  Any sick
cat should be tested regardless
of vaccine history.
