Is my pet overweight?

Most people with overweight pets don't realize it.  In fact, many people
whose pets are a healthy weight are concerned that their pets are "too
skinny."  There is a perception that a "full figured" pet is desirable, because
if he is fat and happy, he must be healthy.  Unfortunately, obesity, even a
little bit, can lead to serious health consequences for your pet.  There are a
few basics for determining if your pet is a healthy weight.  First, is the waist
smaller than the chest?  Can you feel your pet's ribs without being able to
see them?  These are very general, for more specific information click
either
DOG or CAT.

Not all obesity is due to simple overfeeding/ overeating.  Sometimes an
underlying medical condition can be to blame.  If you are having difficulty
maintaining your pet's weight in a healthy range, schedule an appointment
with one of our vets.  Through a thorough history, an exam and some simple
tests, we may be able to help.
